Notes: The brief was to bring to life the character and world of Plumbert for Tesco supermarkets—the story of a boy and his animated Fruit Giant companion embarking on a whimsical magical journey to encourage healthier eating for children across the UK.

Brought on board at the storyboard stage, we immediately began developing concept sound ahead of the shoot, becoming fully immersed in Plumbert's creation from the outset. Our goal was to give the character real gravitas while retaining softness, warmth, and charm. By supplying early sound layers directly to the film editor, the sonic world developed alongside the visual storytelling across a 12-week animation process.

All sound design for Plumbert was created completely from scratch. We recorded hours of bespoke fruit Foley sound effects—apples, carrots, melons, and more—rolling, rocking, rubbing, creaking, and ripping to build the unique sonic bed that became the Fruit Giant.

To establish Plumbert's movement, weight, and personality, we sketched effects against a greyscale model placed in the offline edit for timing, refining the audio week by week as the Giant took shape. We also recorded all studio vocalisations, shaping them for the animators throughout production. The voice was further enhanced using pitch-shifting and spatial processing to create scale and presence, while custom whooshes, swoops, and swells of moving fruit were built from scratch.

The Final Mix was a complex balancing act between a rich musical composition and recognisable soundtrack, the large yet subtle presence of the Giant, the spaciousness of the environments, and the joyful energy of the children throughout the film.

We hope you enjoyed the ride. (No fruit was harmed in the making of this film.)
