| Notes: | Shelter’s 2025 Christmas campaign, ‘Earworm’, turns a familiar festive advertising trope on its head to reveal the reality of homelessness at Christmas. Directed by Michael Gracey, the 60-second film follows a schoolboy joyfully singing Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ throughout his day. His exuberant performance feels playful, funny and increasingly infectious — until he returns home and we discover the devastating reason the song is stuck in his head: it is the hold music his mum has been listening to while trying to reach their temporary accommodation service. The creative transforms a universal frustration into a powerful insight about the 84,240 families estimated to wake up in temporary accommodation on Christmas Day. Developed with people who have lived experience of homelessness, the film uses humour, music and an emotional reveal to cut through the season’s sentimentality, delivering a festive campaign that is memorable, distinctive and impossible to ignore. |
