| Notes: | Channel 4’s 4Creative and Biscuit Filmworks have unveiled a major new campaign for upcoming factual series Apocalypse, a radical modern survival show that asks how ordinary people would react if the world as we know it came to an end. At the heart of the campaign are three cinematic films created by Channel 4's award-winning in-house agency 4Creative, which parody just how comically ill-prepared modern humans might be for an apocalypse. Set against a post-apocalyptic landscape of abandoned streets and looming danger, the films show deeply ingrained social behaviours becoming unexpected obstacles to prospering in survival situations. In one film, two people are so painfully polite about who should go through a doorway first that they struggle to escape a burning building. In another, two survivors hiding from feral dogs get into a petty argument over heavy breathing, with predictably disastrous consequences. And in the third, two friends dismiss potentially life-saving foraging advice as “negative energy”, even as their faces begin to swell. The three films have been brought to life by award winning comedy director Florence Poppy Deary who worked closely with the team to craft insightful, painfully human films. They use ambitious in-camera craft, combining intricate prosthetic effects, practical effects and controlled burns on miniature sets to build a richly cinematic post-apocalyptic world. Oscar-nominated cinematographer Jarin Blaschke served as Director of Photography, using natural light to give the films their distinctive cinematic aesthetic. The wider marketing campaign extends the same darkly comic premise across out-of-home, with posters featuring lines such as “What do you mean there’s no WiFi?”, alongside branded beer mats posing apocalypse-themed “Who’s Most Likely To…?” questions designed to spark debate. |
