Film Title: Three Sacks Full of Hats
Production Company: Prodigal Film & TV, Century Films
Director: Debbie Anzalone
Brief Synopsis: Three Sacks Full of Hats is a story about the destructive power of family and how the ties that bind often become chains that emotionally confine us. The film tells the story of Mick, a thirty-something man who has tried to escape his family environment by moving to London. After a long absence, he now goes back to his hometown to see his dying brother who has suffered years of alcohol abuse. In the last forty eight hours of his brother’s life, Mick is forced to confront the demons he thought he had left behind, confront the feelings he has towards his parents, making us realise in the process that distance does little to heal old wounds. In order to move away from the pain he feels, Mick has to face up to it, to come to terms with who his parents are and let go of the anger he feels towards them. The film looks at the capacity people have to face the truth about who they are, to deal with and transcend a sense of shame and denial that often shapes their emotional lives.
